Mystic Monkey: The Empress

Pardon the gap in posts. Sometimes life just gets away with ya, but here to compensate with a powerful energy is the third tarot card I’ve drawn so far from the Major Arcana: The Empress.

This lady is one big loving Earth mama, generous in her curves as the fertile being she is. Her nurturing isn’t only maternal in the literal sense; she’s also about sowing one’s talents and reaping the rewards, enjoying the sumptuous, sensuous pleasures of life, her celestial crown showing the power and inspiration she channels from the divine in addition to worldly abundance. She is regal, yet she is chill, comfy in her loose draping gown as she reclines on her velvety-looking cushions (their crimson color evoking the root and sacral chakras, respectively grounding and sensual energies). Embodying compassion, creativity, nature, and sensuality, she’s an absolute goddess. She encourages us to birth new life or ideas out into the world, to revel in the bounty of our natural environment–and to provide others with a loving, peaceful, and supportive environment cultivated through feminine wisdom and care. This is just a lush, beautiful card, and I always feel blessed by a visit from the Empress. (I think Miss Monkey fancies her flowy gown for today’s photo shoot, too.)

Mystic Monkey: The 3 of Cups

Well, hurrah and huzzah! Today’s tarot card is the Three of Cups.

This is a real eat, drink, and be merry card. Sweet intoxication, with a cornucopia of delight at one’s feet. An abundance of pleasure and good company. I often think of this one as finding your tribe, being with the folks who get you most and just relaxing into the easy companionship and joy. Life’s hard, so let’s blow off some steam and celebrate all that’s good and grand. Or in the sage words of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, “We saved the world. I say we party!” And this card could be the Scoobies indeed–that tight-knit triumvirate of Willow, Xander, and Buffy, dancing at the Bronze with their Solo cups. 😄

In its negative sense, though, this card might also signal overindulgence or three’s a crowd (maybe even an affair?? Yipes!). As we all know, everything’s best in moderation. But in this card’s most positive sense, when you find the people you can just be yourself with and band together as a community of fun and support, well, that certainly is something to toast to. Cheers! 🍻🍺

Mystic Monkey: The Ace of Swords

Ahh, today’s tarot card blows in like a breath of fresh air: the Ace of Swords.

With its cool, clear simplicity, this card embodies the pure essence of the Swords suit–intellect, rationality, ideas, communication. No mincing words or getting clouded with emotion; this sword cuts to the chase with sharp insight. Easy breezy. This bodes well for achievements of the mind–our intelligence, ambition, and ideology. A call for decisiveness and ingenuity. Of the air element, this card also has a little fire to fuel our innovation and taking the offensive. It can perhaps become a little too cool and calculating, though, verging on callous and contentious.

At any rate, just looking at this card clears my muddled mind, helping me shake subjective fears to get to the heart of a matter and do what needs to be done, say what needs to be said, in a logical, reasoned manner. Or at least I try to. “Monkey Mind” is kind of an occupational hazard. 🐵

Mystic Monkey: The 3 of Pentacles

Okay, so I missed yesterday, but I’m here today for a quick look at my latest tarot card draw: the Three of Pentacles.

Here, I see an apprentice making solid progress on his work under the supervision of two other folks. One holds a blueprint of sorts, and from the looks of it, everything’s going according to plan. We’ve got a lovely stone archway with a solid sense of support, which expresses the general vibe I get from this card: laying a stable foundation. Steady progress toward a goal. There’s also the power of three in this team collaboration that shows sometimes you can’t go it alone; you need the help of others for knowledge, support, and synergy of talents. The physicality of this earth-element card, too, shows progress in the material world. This isn’t just inner development but application of one’s learning and abilities, and it’s only just the beginning–completion and reward lie ahead, yet this is nonetheless a stage of accomplishment and satisfaction. Keep honing your craft and know when to rely on others.
